Here at PKR Ltd we manufacture and supply a range of cardboard reels and spools to suit various products.

Parts of a reel

Our standard card reels consist of 2 cardboard flanges and a barrel.

The different types of cardboard reel available are distinguished by their barrel type and method of construction as detailed below.

The standard type of card used is a solid un-lined chip (ULC) board which is also available with a white lining on one or both sides.

High quality screen printing is available on the cardboard flanges to give your product a more professional look.

Our experienced development team also design and manufacture bespoke cardboard reels purpose built for specific products.

Beaded Metal Cylinder Reel (BMCR)

Our most popular type of cardboard reel, the BMCR consists of 2 cardboard flanges held together by a metal cylinder / tin.

This type of reel is generally used for thin gauge wiring cables but can also be used for other lightweight products such as wire, rope, string, thin plastic or rubber tubing and even fabrics.

The card BMCR is generally supplied as an assembled reel, but is also available in kit form. Please note that specialist machinery is required for self-assembly of this reel.

This reel can also be supplied with a cardboard tube covering the metal tin. This is known as a Hubbed Metal Cylinder Reel or HMCR. Cardboard tubes are also used in the construction of 3 or 4 flange BMCR reels to hold the additional flanges in place.

Beaded Metal Cylinder Reel

Cardboard Metal Stamping Reel (MSR)

The cardboard MSR is a lightweight reel that can be supplied assembled or in kit form.

This type of reel consists of 2 cardboard flanges held together by a number of metal stampings to form the barrel.

The stampings can be covered with either be a solid cardboard tube or a paper strip (hub surround) used to protect the product being wound onto the reel.

Cardboard Metal Stamping Reel

Metal Cup Reel (MCR).

This type of cardboard reel or spool is used for lightweight products and consists of 2 cardboard flanges, 2 metal cups and a cardboard tube.

The metal cup reels can be supplied either pre-assembled or in kit form.

Self assembly can be done by hand by simply pushing the cups into each end of the tube fixing each flange in place.

Louvred Metal Cup Reel

Plastic Plug Reel

This type of cardboard reel or spool is for lightweight use and consists of 2 card flanges, 2 plastic plugs and a cardboard tube.

The plastic plug reel can be supplied in kit form or assembled.

Self assembly is done by hand pushing the plastic plugs into each end of the tube fixing each flange in place.

Plastic Plug Reel

Snap Ring Reel

This type of cardboard reel or spool is a variation of the plastic plug reel and is used for lightweight products.

The reel consists of 2 cardboard flanges, 2 plastic snap rings and a cardboard tube.

The snap ring reel can be supplied in kit form or assembled.

Self assembly is performed by hand pushing the snap rings into each end of the tube fixing each flange in place.

Snap Ring Reel

All Card Reels

This type of reel is a new innovation from PKR Ltd, an all cardboard reel for lightweight products.

This reel is purpose built in design and is made to customer specifications.

This reel consist of 2 cardboard flanges glued to a cardboard barrel. For extra strength the flanges can also be stapled to the barrel.

This is what we call our green reel. With the environment in mind we are continually looking to develop further products that meet environmental issues.
